BUSAY CAVE & SPRING – Moalboal, Cebu

When I first saw this cave, I was astonished by the spring within the cave entrance. I really thought that was just it, i.e. spring in the cave and nothing else. However, there is a hidden beauty lurking in the dark beyond the rock wall of the spring.

Busay Cave and Spring Description

The Busay Cave and Spring is one of the hidden natural attractions in Cebu, offering visitors a refreshing combination of a cave and a freshwater spring. The site is surrounded by lush vegetation, creating a peaceful environment that is ideal for relaxation and nature appreciation. Inside the cave, visitors can observe impressive rock formations, including stalactites and stalagmites that have developed naturally over hundreds or thousands of years. The cool, crystal-clear spring water flows continuously throughout the year, making it an inviting place for swimming and wading. The cave’s naturally cool temperature provides a welcome escape from the tropical heat, while the sound of flowing water enhances its tranquil atmosphere.

The freshwater pool is suitable for visitors who wish to enjoy a refreshing dip after exploring the cave. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities for sightseeing and photography, especially for those who appreciate geological features and natural scenery. Visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear, as some rock surfaces may be wet and slippery. Practicing responsible tourism by avoiding damage to the cave formations and keeping the area clean helps preserve the beauty and ecological value of Busay Cave and Spring for future generations.

Cold Spring Experience

I was enjoying swimming in an icy-cold spring, I can tell that the spring in this cave is one of the coldest springs in Cebu.

There are small freshwater fish in the spring. Locally, they call it “Rainbow”, a type of guppy fish.

The spring depth is only around 4 to 5 feet.

Cave

A local guide assigned in the area approached me and asked whether if I want to go deep inside the cave as there is a wide space inside with an amazing stalactite formation. Since I didn’t know this information ahead and I’m not prepared for it, I took a moment for me to decide.

Then, I’ve decided to go deep inside the cave. Inside the cave, you will walk in a rocky path along with very shallow river flowing. It was my first time seeing such an amazing huge and multiple stalactite formations.

You will also encounter some bats living in the cave.

Also, you will notice that there are metal water pipes and concrete water reservoir tank inside the cave. These are used to supply water to the community.

The cave length is around 150 meters distance from cave entrance (spring) to the cave end (water reservoir tank).

There is a free parking area for MOTORCYCLE just beside and below the pay parking area (near bamboo trees)

Check your vehicle condition especially brakes and tires because some of the roads are steep.

From the parking area, you need to walk for about 250 to 300 meters going to the cave entrance

There are also available table and chairs (mini cottage) that you can rent for ₱150.00

Sari-sari stores are also available within the cave area.

💁 Nearby tourist spot that you can also visit during this trip is the Basdako White Beach.
